Domaine Marc Delienne had its first vintage in 2015 after Marc decided to leave his life in Paris in the IT and banking industry and pursue his dream of becoming a vigneron. He frequented and learnt from Eloi Dürbach of Domaine de Trévallon near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Alain Graillot of Hermitage to prepare himself before purchasing Château de l’Abbaye Saint Laurent d’Arpayé in the centre of Fleurie 2015.
The vineyards were in total 4.8 hectares on a granite slope with sandy, pebbled soil, carrying vines of average age 40 – 80 years old. As an advocate of organic viticulture, the vineyards were farmed with the addition of some biodynamic principles and the goblet vines are trained relatively high, inspired by Madame Lalou-Bize-Leroy’s methodology.
Marc approaches vinification with minimal intervention – juice is fermented with 100% stem-inculsion and indigenous yeast in concrete vats, demi-muids and old Austrian barrels to ensure the least flavour impact. Extraction is managed by minimal pump-over and short skin maceration.
Élevage for all wines is completed the above vessels and sometimes used barrels from Domaine de Trévallon for a minimum of 12 months. The wines are bottled unfinned and unfiltered with minimal sulphur.
